Child Safeguarding/Child Protection Policy

Our child safeguarding and  child protection policy exists as a part of   management’s  effort to  ensure a positive school climate  where every child can experience  unconditional acceptance, affection,    belongingness,   a sense of relevance, and   feels  protected and safe.

Child Safeguarding Measures – Physical Components:

  1. Purpose Built Facility–  Our  school is  purpose built and the  environment has been  designed  and organised  with child safety in mind. The  physical environment is free from objects that could  cause  hazards  or physical injury to learners.
  2. The sick  bay  is always under lock to prevent children from gaining unsupervised access to medications in the first aid box.
  3. All the toilets are located in a  space where it is easy for the cleaners and other school personnel   to easily monitor activities of learners  while they use the convenience and all the toilets are  appropriately and clearly labelled  so as to prevent   unwholesome  behaviours  of children around the convenience area, such as peeping in on one another and inappropriate touching of one another.  For instance,  boys’ toilets are separate from girls’  toilets,  there are separate toilets for the preschool learners  and staff’s toilets are separate from learners’ toilets and everyone can easily identify the toilet meant for them.
  4. There are two teachers in the baby’s class- a main teacher and an assistant teacher who assists with the care of the children.
  5. Open classroom door policy. We ensure that our classroom doors are always open  so as to minimise  teacher-learners’ privacy which could ordinarily   shield teachers’ poor handling of learners from the view of others.   Thanks to our purpose built classroom design that ensures that learners are safe even when their doors are open as all the classroom doors only open to the walkway within the block.
  6. Healthy teacher –Pupils   We  maintain a healthy   teacher-pupils  ratio of 1: less than 20  which is lower than the  UNESCO recommended  teacher-learner ratio of 1:25,  to ensure that teachers are able to have maximum effective interaction and supervision of the learners.
  7. Individual attention. We combine class ( group)  teaching with individual teaching to ensure that no child is left behind in teaching,  care and supervision.
  8. Ease of reporting- Learners are encouraged to report any uncomfortable or abusive treatment meted out to them or their mates so that appropriate steps can be taken.  Hence, a  suggestion box is conspicuously  positioned for them to drop such reports or observations. In order to ensure confidentiality, only the head of admin and the proprietress have access to the  contents  of the suggestion box.
  9. Periodic Staff training and Effective supervision- The teachers  and other school personnel are trained  periodically, at least,  at the beginning of every term on effective child handling, child protection and teaching  to enhance their competence in  teaching and caring for the learners.
